Sonya LaChelle: Press

"It's Got To Be You", . . . has a smooth and refreshing, contemporary sound. Sonya Lachelle's tender vocals remind me of Toni Braxton's. The vocal fills and backing vocals make it work along with the smooth acoustic-driven rhythms.

"It's Got To Be You" appears on the Ausuree Entertainment Group Compilation, "W A K E U P". For more information, please visit www.ausuree-ent.com.
Sonya LaChelle chimes in with an acoustic R&B arrangement on “It's Gotta Be You”, providing harmonies in particular that are absolutely divine!
The following is a transcript from an interview with TSR - The Spirit Radio:
TSR: Where are you from originally and what sort of things were you into growing up?

Sonya LaChelle: Well, I was born in Mobile, Alabama but, my family moved to Tampa when I was young. As far as what I was into growing up . . . I was a tomboy, so I did the sports thing. I always did a little song and dance routine for my mom's company whenever someone would come over. As far as my own personal pass-time I wrote songs and poetry, watched Michael Jackson and watched cartoons.

TSR: How did you get started in the music business?

Sonya LaChelle: As for the music business, I just started. My husband and closest friends encouraged me to get started and get some music out there. However, when it comes to singing, my mother tells the story that when I was born, the doctor smacked my bottom to get a response from me, and instead of crying I sang out "Laah".

TSR: How long have you been doing what you are doing now?

Sonya LaChelle: I've been singing in choirs and churches all my life, but I am just getting started with building a professional music career.

TSR: Who were some of your musical influences?

Sonya LaChelle: Whitney Houston, Vanessa Belle-Armstrong and later on Ce Ce Winans and Ms. Yolanda Adams.

TSR: For those who may not have heard you before, how would you describe your music?

Sonya LaChelle: My music runs the gammett. I'm going to give you just about every genre out there because I love diversity.

TSR: What would you say that most of your songs are about?

Sonya LaChelle: True life.

TSR: What are your feelings toward Christians listening to secular music?

Sonya LaChelle: It depends on the message of the music. I am a true to life writer like Jesus - He used what was around him to help the people understand the kingdom of God. I'm wise enough to recognize wisdom in any form of media.

TSR: How has God been working in your life lately? What things has He been teaching you?

Sonya LaChelle: My Father is reaffirming me of the things I've learned and making sure I'm not easily swayed by imitations. He has also been teaching me that NO is necessary! You can't be there for everybody. Jesus understood that, that's why he began to redevelop himself in the disciples.

TSR: What is the most important thing that you would like people to take away from your music or live shows?

Sonya LaChelle: That being a Christian is not to be taken lightly, and yet you can still enjoy everyday life.

TSR: What is your favorite bible verse?

Sonya LaChelle: MATTHEW 9:36 - "But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd."

TSR: What things do you like to do in your spare time?

Sonya LaChelle: I like to find a new way to say or do something nice for someone, play with my little boy, sit alone with nothing but soft worship music playing or nothing at all and just sit and listen.

TSR: Who is your favorite Christian artist?

Sonya LaChelle: I don't have one favorite Christian artist, and I'm still learning of so many new ones, however, the ones that I do know of, there are certain facets that stands out about them that I favor: CeCe Winans for her worshipful heart, Yolanda Adams for her stance as a recording artist, Kirk Franklin, Tonex and Kelly Price because they are radical - they are not trying to meet today's Christian artist stereotypes. They are going beyond the norm and I love that.
